Sleep Services for Bronx Patients

Sleep Apnea Diagnosis and Treatment

Sleep apnea is a common condition in which your breathing stops and restarts many times while you sleep. It is diagnosed with a sleep study, and breathing devices such as CPAP machines, together with lifestyle changes, are common treatments, according to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. We run the overnight study that confirms sleep apnea and the CPAP titration study that sets your air pressure. See sleep apnea care.

Insomnia Care and CBT-I

Insomnia is chronic when it happens 3 or more nights a week for more than 3 months, according to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. We treat chronic insomnia with cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), and we run a sleep study when another disorder, such as sleep apnea, may be keeping you awake.

Restless Legs Syndrome

We evaluate restless legs syndrome, which causes an urge to move the legs, usually in the evening or at rest. See RLS care.

Daytime Testing (MSLT)

Some problems need more than an overnight study, such as heavy daytime sleepiness or unusual events at night. Our specialized evaluations can include the Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT) and EEG studies, including prolonged EEG of 7 to 14 days.

Consultation and Education

A sleep consultation reviews your symptoms, sleep history and medications, then decides which test, if any, you need. Our medical director, Dr. Dmitriy Kolesnik, MD, is board certified in Neurology and Sleep Medicine.

EEG Testing

Our EEG testing records the electrical activity of the brain, including prolonged EEG of 7 to 14 days for events a short recording can miss.

Short Sleep in the Bronx

CDC PLACES estimates that 43.2 percent of adults in the Bronx usually sleep less than 7 hours a night, the highest share of the five boroughs. If poor sleep comes with loud snoring, daytime sleepiness or restless legs, a sleep study can find the cause.
