Sleep Testing for Astoria Patients

Services for Astoria Patients

A sleep study, or polysomnography, records your breathing, oxygen level, heart rhythm, brain activity and leg movements overnight, so a sleep physician can diagnose sleep apnea and other sleep disorders. Read more about our in-lab sleep studies.

Sleep apnea is a common condition in which your breathing stops and restarts many times while you sleep. It is diagnosed with a sleep study, and breathing devices such as CPAP machines, together with lifestyle changes, are common treatments, according to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. We run the overnight study that confirms sleep apnea and the CPAP titration study that sets your air pressure. See sleep apnea care.

Insomnia is chronic when it happens 3 or more nights a week for more than 3 months, according to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. We treat chronic insomnia with cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), and we run a sleep study when another disorder, such as sleep apnea, may be keeping you awake. Some problems need more than an overnight study, such as heavy daytime sleepiness or unusual events at night. Our specialized evaluations can include the Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT) and EEG studies, including prolonged EEG of 7 to 14 days.
